Point of Interest
(1) Collecting pictures of dinosaurs by scanning picture encyclopedias and downloading images from the Internet. Students will develop creative ideas for expressing dinosaurs by watching these pictures projected in class as well as in groups.
(2) Creating stories to match the pictures drawn by students and recording them using a digital camera. Each presentation will consist of four images pasted onto the presentation software.

Unit
Let’s Make a Digital Picture-Story Show of Dinosaurs
Contents: based on curriculum guidelines
1st & 2nd Grade Content A Expression (2)
To be able to express feelings and images in drawings or craft work and create an original art work.

Teaching Objectives
(1) To expand the students’ creative imagination by showing pictures of dinosaurs and encourage them to create their own original dinosaurs.
(2) To develop a story using their original dinosaurs and/or new characters and take pictures of scenes of the story for class enjoyment.

Lesson Plan
(1)
Show a digital picture-story show created by the teacher to motivate students to create their own artwork.
After projecting pictures of dinosaurs, encourage students to imagine their own original dinosaur from the pictures and to draw a rough sketch.

Students are drawing pictures of dinosaurs while referring to the dinosaur image on the screen.

(2) Have the students draw dinosaurs and other characters for their original picture-story.
In this lesson, the students create paper designs using painting software which are then printed out for the students to draw their own dinosaurs on them. The dinosaurs are then cut out and the students use the figures to come up with a story outline. The students are instructed to create four scenes to be taken by a digital camera.

(3) Have the students create scenes using dinosaurs and other characters and record them using a digital camera.
Then place the cut-out dinosaurs and pictures onto the floor or a colored construction paper and record them using a digital camera. It is recommended that each 4 student group has access to one camera so that they can teach each other how to use the camera and take pictures accordingly. In this example, each student takes four pictures in order of the story sequence.

Preparation/Consideration
Showing different visuals using a computer will increase the students’ desire to create and will provide hints for their own ideas. In addition, the students will be able to use digital cameras to take pictures of story scenes without being nervous, since the camera allows them to retake the shot as many times as necessary.
This lesson uses Microsoft Power Point. Make sure that the format for saving the data is PowerPoint Slide Show. By using this format, a simple click will start a slide show without opening an editing window so that even 2nd graders will be able to handle the software.

Referrence
Many pictures of dinosaurs can easily be obtained by scanning pictures in picture encyclopedias and by conducting an image search by Google.
