Point of Interest
The digital pictorial book “Encyclopedia of Aquatic Organisms” provides instructions on how to examine water quality through observation of aquatic organisms, thereby effectively teaching safety precautions, organism collection method, and data classification.

Unit
A Closer Look at Our Lives~Preserving the Fujii River

Teaching Objectives
To understand the extent of the pollution of the nearby river through research on resident aquatic organisms and to think about what we can do to protect our surrounding environment.

Lesson Plan
(1) Gather information on the Fujii River which flows through the school district. (interview fifth graders, formulate a plan)
(2) Check the water quality of the Fujii River
Refer to the digital pictorial book on how to conduct the research.
